South Africa vs Ireland Series has turned out to be a a great warm up for the South African Team’s World Cup Campaign. After sweeping Ireland 2-0, South Africa completed the white-ball leg of their tour of the UK with a second T20I series victory. Wayne Parnell (5/30) produced career-best figures as he spearheaded the Proteas bowling attack to dismiss Ireland for 138 with 7 balls remaining and claim the series 2-0

Cricket South Africa, now look in great form ahead of the the World Cup thanks to their 44-run victory in Bristol, which was their fourth victory in five T20Is in ten days.

Ireland, on the other side, suffered their third series defeat of the summer and their eighth straight T20I loss. Since qualifying for the T20 World Cup in February, they have failed to win a T20 International match. Later this month, they will host Afghanistan for five games in an effort to fine-tune their lineups before the major competition.

Ireland’s attack needs to be more disciplined, as evidenced by the fact that they bowled eight wides and a no-ball in game two and 13 wides in game one. Meanwhile, their batting order is in desperate need of Paul Stirling’s return to form and the contributions of at least one other player in the top six.

After fighting valiantly in the first game, they came up short in the second against a South African onslaught that was adept at adapting to the circumstances. Dwaine Pretorius contributed with 3 for 33, and Wayne Parnell had a career-high 5 for 30 using the short ball.

In the end, Ireland will also be rightly frustrated with the number of runs they conceded in a short period of time after they kept Cricket South Africa quiet at the beginning and the end of their innings. South Africa were 93 for 4 after 14 overs, but David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen shared 71 runs for the fifth wicket to take them over 180.

Thus, South Africa have now won 18 of their last 26 T20I matches dating back to June last year, including four series wins and a draw.
