Today marked a significant milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the impressive New Terminal Building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, showcasing its stunning architectural finesse. Valued at over ₹1100 crore, this two-level international terminal stands poised to serve an annual capacity of more than 44 lakh passengers, signifying a leap forward in the region’s aviation infrastructure.
This inauguration follows hot on the heels of the recent unveiling of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, emphasizing the government’s commitment to bolstering air connectivity across the nation.
During his visit to Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with the state’s dynamic youth at the Convocation Ceremony held at Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. Expressing his delight at commencing the year’s first public event in Tamil Nadu amidst the vibrant ‘Yuva Shakti’ (youth power) of the state, PM Modi stated, “It is a matter of immense joy that my first public programme of 2024 took place in the great state of Tamil Nadu and that too among our Yuva Shakti.”
Highlighting the significance of the new airport terminal and associated infrastructure initiatives, the Prime Minister noted their pivotal role in shaping the region’s economic landscape positively. He affirmed, “The new airport terminal building and other connectivity projects being launched in Tiruchirappalli will positively impact the economic landscape of the region.”
PM Modi outlined his upcoming engagements across Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Kerala, emphasizing a comprehensive approach towards development. “Over the next two days, I will be attending various programmes in Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Kerala. These works will benefit several people,” he remarked, underscoring the diverse developmental projects slated for inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies.

Among these projects, PM Modi expressed anticipation for engaging with the people of Lakshadweep, where initiatives worth Rs. 1150 crore are set to be inaugurated or initiated. The Convocation Ceremony at Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli resonated with the Prime Minister’s vision for youth empowerment and regional development.
