Saturday, July 11, 2026: Indian consumers are snapping up the iPhone 17 amid growing expectations that Apple could increase smartphone prices in the coming months. The sudden spike in demand has led to limited availability of several iPhone 17 models across offline retail stores and major e-commerce platforms, according to a report by The Economic Times.
The buying rush follows Apple’s recent decision to raise prices of select products, including MacBooks, iPads and smart home devices, citing higher component and memory costs. While iPhone prices have remained unchanged so far, many buyers are choosing not to wait.
Retailers told the publication that customers are being advised to purchase the iPhone 17 now, as future price revisions cannot be ruled out. The anticipation of a possible increase has encouraged many consumers to buy earlier than planned.
Apple Fans Rush to Buy iPhone 17 as Price Rise Speculation Grows
Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, said the firm’s recent market checks found a clear rise in consumer interest after Apple’s latest pricing changes. According to him, retailers have reported more enquiries about iPhone 17 availability, with many buyers asking whether prices are likely to go up soon.
The report also noted that fresh supplies of the standard iPhone 17 have been limited over the past 10 days. The shortage has made it harder for shoppers to find specific colour options and storage variants, especially through online marketplaces such as Flipkart and Amazon.
Unlike previous sales, retailers say many customers are paying the listed price instead of waiting for discounts or negotiating offers, reflecting concerns that the device could become more expensive later.
Industry data also points to strong iPhone demand during the April-June quarter. Analysts estimate that Apple shipped more than 3.5 million iPhones during the period, up from around 3.1 million units in the same quarter last year. Shipments also improved compared with the January-March quarter, helped by promotional campaigns on e-commerce platforms.
Market observers believe another factor supporting sales is speculation that Apple may not introduce a new standard iPhone model this year as it shifts attention towards its first foldable iPhone. Some consumers appear to be advancing their purchases rather than waiting for future launches.
Apple has not announced any increase in iPhone prices. However, the company has acknowledged rising costs across the consumer electronics industry due to more expensive components and tighter supplies of memory and storage chips. While affordability programmes on some iPhone models have been reduced, Apple has so far kept iPhone pricing unchanged.
