Feb 27: The Gaganyaan mission is slated to launch a three-member crew into Low Earth Orbit, marking a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the astronauts have undergone rigorous training in both technical expertise and physical fitness to ensure a successful mission.
At an event held at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Prime Minister Modi bestowed astronaut wings upon the four selected individuals set to embark on the historic human space flight mission. The chosen astronauts include Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.

“The country has come to know about the four Gaganyaan passengers. These are not just four names or four people. These are four powers who will take the aspirations of 140 crore Indians to space,” asserted the Prime Minister, highlighting the mission’s symbolic significance. He emphasized that India’s space endeavors, epitomized by the Gaganyaan mission, signify the nation’s emergence as a key player on the global stage.
Reflecting on India’s economic prowess and technological advancements, Prime Minister Modi underscored the pivotal role of the Gaganyaan mission in propelling the nation’s space sector to new heights. “At a time when India is set to become the world’s third-largest economy, the Gaganyaan mission will take our space sector to new heights,” he remarked.
Moreover, Prime Minister Modi lauded the significant contributions of women scientists in India’s space technology sector, emphasizing the indispensable role of “India’s Nari Shakti” in driving the nation’s scientific achievements. “Be it Chandrayaan or Gaganyaan, no such mission can be imagined without women scientists,” he asserted.
