Indian cricket opener Shikhar Dhawan took to social media on December 26 to express his heartfelt emotions on his son Zoravar’s birthday, revealing the heart-wrenching reality of being unable to contact his nine-year-old son.
In a poignant Instagram post, Dhawan shared his pride for his son and posted a screenshot of a video call with Zoravar, portraying the distance between them.
The emotional revelation comes following the separation of Dhawan and his ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee after an unsuccessful marriage. The divorce, granted by a court in October this year, cited “cruelty” directed towards the renowned cricketer by his estranged wife. Judge Harish Kumar acknowledged Dhawan’s claims of being kept away from his son and coerced into financial decisions.
The court’s ruling specifically mandated Mukherjee to facilitate their son’s visitation to India for stays with Dhawan and his family, especially during school breaks. However, Dhawan appears to be facing obstacles in maintaining a connection with his son.
It has been a painful one year for Shikhar Dhawan
“It’s been a year since I saw you in person, and now, for almost three months, I’ve been blocked from everywhere so Posting the same picture to wish you, my boy, a very Happy Birthday. Even if I can’t connect with you directly, I connect with you through Telepathy. I am so proud of you, and I know you’re doing great and growing up nicely,” expressed Shikhar Dhawan in his heartfelt message.
“Papa always misses you and loves you. He’s always positive, waiting with a smile for the time when we will meet again by the Grace of God. Be naughty but not destructive, be a giver, be humble, compassionate, patient, and strong,” Dhawan conveyed, despite the communication barrier.
In his legal petitions, Shikhar Dhawan highlighted Mukerji’s commitments to her previous marriage and daughters residing in Australia, creating physical and emotional distance during their eight-year union. Allegedly, Mukerji pressured Dhawan into heavy investments in Australian properties.
During court proceedings, Mukerji didn’t contest the accusations. While the divorce was granted, the court didn’t finalize their son’s custody, permitting Dhawan to spend time with Zoravar in India and Australia, including overnight stays and video calls.
The separation of Dhawan and Mukerji occurred in 2023, with neither party making public statements about the divorce, leaving Dhawan grappling with the emotional turmoil of a fractured family dynamic.
