Twitter $8 program update and the new rules to follow

Twitter’s Current verified accounts will be unaffected by Twitter’s $8 revised Blue membership programme, which is available to both current users who want the Blue Badge and new users who want to be verified. Twitter has also released the new set of rules.

The social media platform which in the past was pretty famous for its trolls and parody accounts has now taken a stringent position against people “impersonating” its new owner Elon Musk.

As per AFP, verified accounts with millions of followers have now been suspended after their username was changed to ‘Elon Musk’. And among those locked out of the platform is the account belonging to comedian Kathy Griffin, who had two million followers and was “blue-ticked”.

The Verge quotes a Twitter FAQ for advertisers as saying that the $8 monthly paid verification “would not effect existing verified accounts at this time.”

Users who have previously been verified were supposed to pay for the new Blue plan or risk having their Blue Badges removed after 90 days if they didn’t.

The FAQ also read that “large brand advertisers who are already verified will now have an additional ‘Official’ label beneath their name upon Twitter Blue’s relaunch this week”.

Twitter had delayed the roll out of its much-anticipated Blue subscription service with verification tag for $8 after the US midterm elections.

New Twitter Chief Elon Musk early on wanted employees to roll out Blue with verification by November 7 “and threatened to fire them if they didn’t meet this deadline”.

Less advertisements, a higher priority for searches, the option to publish lengthier videos, and a blue badge are all features of the new Twitter Blue service.
