Black Widow Movie sets a new $80 Million collection record

Black Widow , the new super hero Scarlett Johansson movie has taken the box-office to new high with in an estimated $80 million in North America collection reported this three-day weekend. This is termed as a pandemic-era record as the Marvel Universe showed continuing lure, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday.

The movie, starring Scarlett Johansson as the cat-suited superspy, took in an additional $60 million streaming on Disney Plus (at $29.99 for subscribers), and $78 million internationally, for an impressive global total of $218 million.

Hollywood reports called it “unprecedented” for a studio to announce its streaming total on a film’s opening weekend. The film has yet to open in China. Far behind in second place was Universal’s action thriller F9: The Fast Saga, at $10.9 million, down by more than half from last weekend’s take.

It had held the previous pandemic-era record with a $70 million opening. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and John Cena star in this ninth installment in the Fast And Furious franchise. Universal also claimed the next two box-office spots.

In third was its animated sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business, at $8.7 million. The yarn about a cannily can-do “boss baby” features the voices of Alec Baldwin, Eva Longoria, Jeff Goldblum and Lisa Kudrow.

Scarlett ‘s Black Widow finally released this week in the US. The highly-anticipated Marvel Studios movie was delayed for over a year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic before the studio decided to release it this week. While the movie has received positive reviews, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are upset with the Taskmaster featured in the movie.

Fans took to Twitter and shared their disappointment. “#BlackWidow could’ve been so much better than what we actually got. And to all of the many #Taskmaster fans out there my respects and condolences. Cause that character was one of the worst adaptations of any comic book character I’ve ever seen,” a fan said.

“Yes, the Taskmaster twist in Black Widow fits the themes of the film, but they still CHOSE to adapt a known character for the sake of fan appeal and completely butcher them. All they had to do was not make the character Taskmaster in the first place, so the criticism is valid,” added another. “Fortnite did taskmaster better than black widow,” a third fan said. “Taskmaster in Spider-Man is better than taskmaster in black widow,” a fourth added.
