Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked the Olympics Frenzy in India, as he voiced India’s fervent aspirations to host the 2036 Olympic Games, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s sporting ambitions. Addressing the esteemed International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai on Saturday, PM Modi emphasized the collective desire of 140 crore Indians to witness the prestigious global event on home soil.

While the specific candidate city was not explicitly mentioned during the speech, all signs point to Ahmedabad emerging as the leading contender for the coveted hosting rights. Additionally, PM Modi articulated India’s keen interest in hosting the 2029 Youth Olympic Games, considering it a crucial preparatory step leading up to the grand spectacle in 2036. Notably, the upcoming Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris in 2024, followed by Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.

However, amidst stiff competition from other aspiring host nations such as Poland, Mexico, and Indonesia, the final decision on the 2036 Olympics host city is anticipated to be made by the IOC in the forthcoming three years, as revealed during the IOC session on Sunday.

Signifying the proactive measures taken by the state of Gujarat to gear up for the monumental event, reports have surfaced indicating the approval and identification of four potential sites around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar for the extensive construction and preparation endeavors.

An exclusive entity, the Gujarat Olympics Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited, has been established, underscoring the state’s unwavering commitment to meticulously plan and execute the monumental feat. With the iconic Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad serving as the nucleus of the envisioned sporting extravaganza, comprehensive groundwork is underway to accommodate a diverse range of over 20 sports within this dynamic enclave, promising a spectacle of unparalleled athletic excellence.

Furthermore, Gujarat’s proactive engagement with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and the Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) underscores the collaborative efforts to identify and develop potential sites essential for hosting the grand event. Spearheading these efforts, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has personally overseen crucial meetings, ensuring meticulous preparations and coordination for the historic event.

On a parallel note, the global cricket community is brimming with excitement as the sport is set to make its debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with expectations of significantly expanding its global footprint and stimulating infrastructural advancements.

With Team India poised to be among the six cricket teams competing in the 2028 Olympics, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to materialize this momentous inclusion. Nevertheless, this also entails stringent doping tests for the participating athletes, underscoring the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sport at the grandest stage of them all.
