August 1, 2024: In a disappointing turn of events at the Paris 2024 badminton tournament, India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, were defeated by Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarter-finals. The Indian duo, who were the third seeds and strong contenders for a medal, saw their campaign end with a 21-13, 14-21, 16-21 loss to the 2022 world champions.

Satwik and Chirag’s Medal Hopes Dashed as Indian Pair Falls to Malaysia’s Chia and Soh

The Paris Olympics 2024 match began promisingly for Rankireddy and Shetty, who claimed the first game with confidence. However, Chia and Soh rallied strongly, securing the next two games to advance to the semi-finals. The Indian pair’s defeat in the knockout stages marks a tough break for their medal hopes in this prestigious tournament.

In other tournament news, Indian badminton fans had a moment of cheer with Lakshya Sen’s performance in the men’s singles round of 16. Sen convincingly overcame his seeded compatriot, H.S. Prannoy, with scores of 21-12 and 21-6, advancing to the next round and keeping Indian hopes alive in the singles competition.
