Liverpool returned to the top and won the top-flight league title for the first time in 30 years in the Premier League, one of the most watched leagues in the world with a big fan base in India as well. The 2019–20 season was also begun after being suspended in the middle.
Football was one of the first sporting activities to begin in 2020, when COVID was at its height globally. The Bundesliga kicked things off, and then gradually other leagues followed.
Under Antonio Conte, Spurs have performed admirably this Premier League season through the first three match days and are in the top half of the standings. They had a strong transfer window as well, strengthening the team by bringing in players like Richarlison and Ivan Perisic. They are participating in the Champions League this season, and the club’s supporters are really hopeful that things will work out for them this time. Supporters of Tottenham who hasn’t seen their team win a trophy in more than a decade, is hopeful that this time would be different.
Manchester City has won the championship four times in the last five seasons of the Premier League under Pep Guardiola, and they are expected to do it again this year. Despite losing players like Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Fernandinho, the additions of Erling Haaland and Kelvin Phillips give grounds for optimism. On Saturday at the Etihad Stadium, Haaland did in fact score a hat-trick against Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, Goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong helped Southampton earn an impressive 2-1 comeback home win over Chelsea, their first in nine years, that sent them seventh in the table.
Raheem Sterling had put Chelsea ahead with his third goal in two matches, but Lavia’s terrific whipped strike opened his Premier League account and drew Southampton level.
Armstrong fired Southampton into the lead on the stroke of half-time and they held on to move level on points with eighth-placed Chelsea, and ahead on goals scored.
Leon Osman cited the work ethic instilled by Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl into his young team for the turnaround.
“I find it amazing that he says his team find it fun working hard,” the ex-Everton star said. “No one finds it fun running around as much as his team did tonight!”
