England vs New Zealand 1st Test was off to an exciting start. In the first day-night test match between New Zealand and England, Harry Brook stole the show with his blistering knock of 89, leading England to a commanding total of 325/9 on Day 1. The match was played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Thursday.

The England batsmen, led by Brook and Ben Duckett (84), dominated the Kiwi bowlers throughout the day, with Ollie Pope also contributing 42 runs to help his side establish a solid total. The hosts managed to capture three wickets in the middle session, raising hopes of limiting the damage, but Brook continued to pile on the runs and built a 55-run partnership with Ben Stokes.

The English captain Joe Root was dismissed for a paltry 14, after a botched ramp shot caught the bottom edge and went to Daryl Mitchell. Brook, on the other hand, kept the scoreboard ticking over at a furious rate, adding 145 runs in the final session of the day. He was unbeaten on 79 off 64 balls at the dinner break, with wicketkeeper Ben Foakes on 27.

New Zealand’s bowling attack, with the exception of captain Tim Southee, had a forgettable day on the field. Wagner, in particular, struggled with control and bowled several no-balls. Southee, who bowled a probing spell of swing in his first spell, was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets.

Despite the poor showing by their bowlers, New Zealand’s top-order batsmen started off reasonably well, with Tom Latham and Will Young adding 29 runs for the first wicket. However, their middle order crumbled under pressure, with both Latham and Young being dismissed for single-digit scores.
