Subi Suresh, the very talented Malayalam Comedian, and talk show host of Cinemala and Kuttipattalam has passed away. The actress breathed her last at a private hospital in Kochi on Wednesday (February 22). She was 42.
Subi, a native of Thripunitura entered the spotlight through comical programmes on stage. She was an actively involved in several stage programmes organised by the Cochin Kalabhavan troupe. Her timing and signature style of delivering dialogues helped her to make a lasting impression in the world of television. She was part of popular comedy programmes in multiple Malayalam television channels that ran for several episodes, which included ‘Cinemala’ in Asianet.
A stand-up comedian, Subi Suresh entered the big screen through director Rajasenan’s ‘Kanakasimhasanam’ in 2006.
Her Instagram handle shared the news of her demise. Along with a picture of a radiant Suresh, it dropped the caption, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. See you all again… Thanks.” The post received over 13,000 likes. Her Instagram fans flooded the comment section to mourn the actress. ‘Rest in peace, Chechi,” wrote one user. Another commented, “We were people who grew up laughing on Cinemala and then Kuttipattalam. Rip.”
The actress had been ailing from liver problems for many years. She was eventually admitted to the Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva on January 28, with acute liver failure. According to a report by The News Minute although she was diagnosed with jaundice, she couldn’t undergo treatment as she had a chronic lung condition as well.

Suresh began her career as a mimicry artist. She was a member of the Cochin Kalabhavan troupe. Later, she became a household name through the parody classic ‘Cinemala’. Her hilarious avatars remain fresh in the audience’s mind, even a decade after the show went off the air. Later on, she also appeared as the host of the very popular kids’ show ‘Kutty Pattalam’.
Aside from a successful stint as a talk show host, Suresh also acted in several comic roles in films like ‘Happy Husbands’, Kanaka Simhasanam’, etc. She also had a YouTube channel where she shared travel and lifestyle videos. The last video showed her dressed in casual attire, exploring the markets of Ranchi.
In 2021, Suresh hit headlines after telling off a creepy netizen who had left sleazy comments on her sartorial choices. “I am fed up with such moral policing, Uncles. Thinking he was trying to be famous,” she wrote.
Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan took to Twitter to mourn her death. He wrote, “Absolutely shocked to hear about Subi Suresh. Soo young and so much left to do. A real loss to the Malayalam film fraternity. Praying for her family and friends to cope through this difficult time.”
Mega star Mohanlal also remembered the actress. Taking to Facebook, he wrote, “Subi Suresh, the beloved artist who stole the hearts of the Malayali audience with her laughter, has left us untimely. Painful tributes on the passing of a dear sister who was to go on to many heights in acting and presentation.”
