FA Cup Final 2023 fever has reached a boiling point as Manchester United triumph in nail-biting shootout to secure historic clash against cross-town rivals Manchester City.

In a dramatic penalty shootout against Brighton, Victor Lindelof secured Manchester United’s place in the FA Cup final against their cross-city rivals, Manchester City. This sets up a historic all-Manchester final, where both teams have a lot to play for, making it one of the most anticipated games of the season.

For Manchester United, it’s a chance to add a second major trophy to their cabinet, and a statement of intent for next season, under the leadership of their Dutch manager, Erik ten Hag. United won the League Cup earlier this year and is on course to qualify for the Champions League. A win against City would be a significant milestone in the club’s journey towards challenging for the Premier League title once again.

On the other hand, for Manchester City, the FA Cup could be the second leg of a historic treble, which would emulate their rivals’ feat in 1999 when they won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup all in the same season. This would also be their first-ever FA Cup win since 2019, after being knocked out in the semi-finals last season by Arsenal.

This epic clash between the two Manchester teams is expected to be laced with tension given the fan rivalry, with City being the dominant force in English football for the past decade. But United’s victory over Brighton in the semifinals could give them the much-needed boost of confidence to challenge their rivals.

While City has become a dominant force in English soccer since being taken over by Abu Dhabi’s ruling family in 2008, they have still never won the Champions League. This could all change this season, as Pep Guardiola’s side looks in ominous form on the back of a 16-game unbeaten run. City will play defending champions Real Madrid in the last four, with much to do to lift the one trophy they have yet to win.

A treble could be considered by some as the final confirmation that City has left United in its wake. But United’s journey towards challenging City’s supremacy is ongoing, with Ten Hag leading the team to its first trophy in six years this season and securing Champions League qualification.

The FA Cup final on June 3 will be a historic clash between the two Manchester teams, where the winner will earn bragging rights for the foreseeable future. This match could be seen as a defining moment in United’s journey towards challenging City’s supremacy, while for City, a win could mark the start of a new era of dominance.
