Qantas Introduces New Dress Code for Men and Women Air Crew
SHARE
Sydney: In a move to align with contemporary era, Qantas, Australia’s national airline, announced a game changing overhaul of its uniform guidelines. The company’s decision to do away with a gender-based dress codes allows male cabin crew members to wear make-up, while offering women the flexibility to step away from the high heels.

Recognizing the need to adapt to changing societal norms and to accommodate the diverse cultural backgrounds of its staff, Qantas took this step to make uniforms more comfortable and inclusive. The airline had gained notoriety in the past for its meticulous style guide, which dictated regulations on facial hair, sideburn length, and even specific shades of eyeliner.

These alterations were initiated following persistent calls from labor unions, advocating for the removal of certain rules, such as the mandatory requirement for female employees to wear make-up.

“Our style guidelines have evolved alongside changing fashions and societal trends,” emphasized Qantas in an official statement. “We have always aimed to ensure our uniform standards remain in sync with the times.”

Under the newly introduced “style and grooming guidelines,” the airline has abolished the previous categorization of uniforms into “male” and “female.” Cabin crew members now have the freedom to choose whether or not to wear make-up, opt for comfortable flat shoes, and style their hair in a ponytail or bun, even if it is long.

Moreover, the updated guidelines permit the use of diamond earrings, while eliminating the stringent rules concerning the size and style of watches.

Qantas’ progressive approach to redefining its uniform guidelines reflects a broader trend of organizations embracing diversity, inclusion, and gender equality. By discarding gender-based dress codes and prioritizing employee comfort, Qantas sends a positive message that resonates with modern values and fosters an inclusive work environment.
