The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially unveiled the election schedule for assembly polls in five Indian states, namely Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram in 2023. Voting starts on Nov 7, counting on Dec 3.

The announcement, made earlier today, provided crucial details regarding the electoral process, including nomination filing deadlines, polling dates, and result declaration timelines for all five states.

In preparation for the upcoming polls, the Election Commission convened a meeting on Friday, bringing together a group of observers to devise a comprehensive strategy aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections. The meeting involved police, general, and expenditure observers who collaborated to streamline strategies to enforce the Model Code of Conduct, thereby preserving a level playing field and preventing the undue influence of money in the electoral process.

The state of Chhattisgarh is set to hold its elections in two phases, with polling scheduled for November 7 and November 17, 2023. Coincidentally, Madhya Pradesh will conduct its legislative elections on November 17, aligning with the second phase of voting in Chhattisgarh.

Rajasthan and Telangana will each go to the polls in a single phase on November 23 and November 30, respectively. Meanwhile, Mizoram’s legislative elections are slated for November 7, 2023.

Political leaders from various parties have expressed their readiness and optimism ahead of these crucial state elections announced by Election Commission of India . Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat welcomed the announcement, stating, “We welcome it, and we are ready to fight. We will win in all five states. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm within the party. The party is hopeful. We have performed very well wherever our government is in place. In Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Telangana, people of the states where we don’t have a government want to come with Congress now. Congress will win by a significant margin there.”

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar of the BJP also extended a warm welcome to the Election Commission of India‘s decision, saying, “I welcome the decision of the Election Commission for the election program. BJP is fully prepared to participate in the Rajasthan elections and all the other state polls… I believe that workers will work hard, and BJP will get the blessings of the people…”

Congress MP Randeep Surjewala expressed his views on the announcement of election dates, stating, “…People in all these five states will take BJP out of power and prove that a significant change will come in the country in 2024. 8.5 crore people in Madhya Pradesh are ready to remove BJP. MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is tired and retired…”

Om Prakash Mathur, BJP Chhattisgarh incharge, confidently remarked on the upcoming two-phase polls in the state, saying, “BJP Chhattisgarh is fully ready for the elections. We will form the government with a full majority in the state…Even in Rajasthan, BJP will come to power.”

As the election fervor intensifies in these states, all eyes are now on the campaigns and developments that will unfold in the coming weeks in the lead-up to the polls.
