Barcelona’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, expressed disappointment following a tense 1-1 draw against Valencia in Sunday’s La Liga clash, stating that his team had “given away two points.”
The draw places the champions in third position, narrowly ahead of Atletico Madrid by a single point but trailing Real Madrid by four and surprise leaders Girona by six, having played one additional game compared to these three contenders.
Although Atletico suffered a 2-0 defeat against Athletic Bilbao earlier in the day, Barcelona couldn’t capitalize fully on this slip-up in what proved to be an entertaining clash on the east coast.

Commenting on the match, Xavi Hernandez emphasized the need for greater prowess in the opponent’s box, lamenting missed opportunities that cost them victory in the La Liga clash. He told Movistar, “I think we gave away two points because the team had a very good game… we take away a point that leaves us very unsatisfied.”
Barcelona’s recent league form has been lackluster, having won just one of their last four matches, including a heavy defeat by Girona and a midweek Champions League loss to Royal Antwerp, which raised concerns about Xavi’s management despite the team securing a spot in the last 16.
Amidst uncertainties, Barcelona’s midfielder Pedri acknowledged the team’s frustration but pledged support for Xavi, stating, “We’re with the coach… we have to be united to turn it around.”
The La Liga game against Valencia mirrored their previous defeat by Girona, showcasing end-to-end action. Despite taking the lead through Joao Felix’s goal from a slick team move, Barcelona were pegged back by Hugo Guillamon’s impressive strike.
