Arjuna Award 2023 updates: India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was among the 26 sportspersons who received the Arjuna Award on January 9, 2024, from Droupadi Murmu, the President of India. Shami, who finished as the leading wicket-taker of the World Cup 2023, was bestowed with the Arjuna Award, the second highest sporting honor in India, during the award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Shami’s exceptional performance in the World Cup, where he picked up 24 wickets from just 7 matches, earned him the prestigious recognition. His name was recommended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India after his sensational World Cup campaign.

Shami expressed his happiness and gratitude after winning the Arjuna Award 2023, stating, “This award is a dream, life passes and people are not able to win this award.
