17th Feb: Rajkot, India — In a dramatic turn of events during the ongoing third Test match between India and England, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal sparked fresh injury concerns for Team India. The 22-year-old left-handed batsman retired hurt after reaching a magnificent century on Day 3 of the match. Jaiswal’s innings, comprising 104 runs (retired hurt) from 133 balls, marked his second century of the series. India finished the day at 196 for 2 after 51 overs.

Dominance at the Crease

Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting like a dream, bossing over the England bowlers on a docile Rajkot pitch. With impeccable timing and an array of strokes, he peeled off a dominant century, peppering the boundary to help India extend their lead past the 300-run mark. His innings was a testament to his immense talent and determination.

The Sudden Setback

Shortly after reaching the three-figure mark, the joy turned into concern. Yashasvi Jaiswal complained about pain in his lower back. The dressing room buzzed with activity as the team physio rushed to attend to him. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid exchanged concerned looks as they assessed the situation.

Agony and Decision

Despite showcasing sublime form, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s celebration of reaching the hundred-run milestone was marred by a sudden onset of lower back pain. On-air commentators Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar speculated that the pain might have been caused due to Jaiswal’s passionate celebrations after the century. The 22-year-old made a huge leap, and while he didn’t immediately show signs of discomfort, both commentators felt it could be a potential reason.

Jaiswal received medical attention, leading to a significant delay in play as he deliberated whether to continue. Unfortunately, just one over later, his expressions revealed his agony, prompting concerns from both the dressing room and spectators. Ultimately, it was decided to withdraw Jaiswal from the innings.

A Standing Ovation

As Yashasvi Jaiswal left the field following the conclusion of the 44th over, he received a standing ovation from the crowd, his teammates, and the team management. His valiant effort had left an indelible mark on the game. Rajat Patidar replaced the opener but was dismissed for a ten-ball duck.

Ind Vs Eng 3rd Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal turns a Formidable Challenge for England

Before his untimely departure, Jaiswal had dismantled the England spin trio of Hartley, Rehan Ahmed, and Joe Root. His aggressive strokeplay and unwavering focus had made him a formidable challenge for the English team.

India will be closely monitoring Jaiswal’s recovery as they prepare for the remainder of the Test series. The injury adds to the team’s concerns, but Jaiswal’s fighting spirit remains an inspiration.
