July 18, 2024: AM Green (formerly Greenko ZeroC), a global leader in energy transition solutions, has secured a significant milestone with the pre-certification of their green ammonia project in Kakinada, India, under the CertifHy EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) scheme. This achievement marks AM Green as the first Indian company to achieve this distinction and positions them as a frontrunner in unlocking the lucrative EU green hydrogen market.
AM Green World’s Largest Green Ammonia Plant Stepping onto the Global Stage
The pre-certification signifies AM Green’s commitment to the highest international standards for green hydrogen production. It paves the way for supplying clean energy from India to the demanding EU market, solidifying AM Green’s leadership in the green hydrogen and ammonia sectors. Notably, AM Green’s Kakinada facility is poised to become one of the world’s largest green ammonia plants, with a projected production capacity reaching five million tons per annum by 2030.
The pre-certification process involved a comprehensive evaluation of AM Green’s Kakinada project against the stringent criteria of the CertifHy EU RFNBO Voluntary Scheme. This scheme ensures that green hydrogen is produced using carbon-free, renewable energy sources and adheres to European regulations for decarbonizing industries like transport and manufacturing.
Pre-certification is increasingly sought after by renewable energy developers. It offers a crucial early assessment, identifying potential issues and saving valuable resources down the line. Additionally, pre-certification acts as a powerful tool for securing Final Investment Decisions (FID) and negotiating offtake agreements.
Representatives from CertifHy, Bureau Veritas, and Hinicio also applauded AM Green’s achievement, highlighting the project’s significance for India’s renewable energy sector and the global clean energy market.
AM Green’s pre-certification signifies a major leap forward for India’s green hydrogen ambitions. The project sets a strong precedent for future collaborations and contributes to a robust global market for clean energy solutions.
