September 25, 2025: Pawan Kalyan’s latest film They Call Him OG, which premiered on September 25, has sparked a wave of reactions across social media and review platforms. Directed by Sujeeth and featuring Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi in his Telugu debut, the film opened to packed theatres and a divided audience.

They Call him OG: First Impressions: Style Over Substance?

Early viewers of paid previews and opening shows have praised the film’s technical finesse and star power. Pawan Kalyan’s screen presence and Thaman’s background score have emerged as standout elements, with fans calling the intro sequence “electrifying” and the BGM “frame-defining.”

Producer Naga Vamsi described the film as “packed with madness,” while fans on X (formerly Twitter) hailed it as “technically brilliant” and “a treat to watch.” The interval block and police station scenes were singled out for their visual impact.

Emraan Hashmi’s portrayal of antagonist Omi Bhau has drawn notable attention. His performance is being called “menacing” and “stylish,” with some viewers labeling him the film’s “showstopper.” His presence reportedly adds depth to the climax, which features high-energy action and strong visuals.

Criticism Builds Around the Second Half

Despite the initial excitement, criticism has emerged around the film’s OG pacing and narrative structure. Several viewers found the first half slow and predictable, citing clichéd setups and lackluster character development. The second half, in particular, has been described as “below average,” with some calling it “routine” and “overdramatic.”

One user rated the film 2/5, noting that while the music and aesthetics shine, the screenplay falters. Another review called the film “a borefest,” criticizing its reliance on familiar hero-villain tropes.

Storyline Snapshot

Set in Mumbai, OG follows Ojas Gambheera (Pawan Kalyan), a former gangster who resurfaces after a decade to confront crime lord Omi Bhau (Emraan Hashmi). The ensemble cast includes Priyanka Mohan, Arjun Das, Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Shriya Reddy, and Subhaleka Sudhakar.
