For the first time here at Tokyo 2020, Katie Ledecky will stand on the top step of the podium.

Ledecky is the hot favorite in this race and for good reason, she has most of the best times of all time in this event. Ledecky is comfortably out to a big lead but as they turn with 200m left, Sarah Kohler in lane 7 appears to be catching Ledecky!

Three laps to go and Ledecky’s lead is down to just 3.5 seconds, with Erica Sullivan (USA) turning in second and Kohler third.

Ledecky is not having this all her own way! The bell rings – 100 m to go. Ledecky turns in the lead but with only a 2.88-second lead. Can she hold on?

Her teammate Sullivan is pushing hard. Kohler is close with her. Ledecky turns in the lead.
