PV Sindhu lost to Tai Tzu-Yin 21-18 & 21-12 at the Olympics 2020 semi-final contest. Tzu-Yin completely dominated her with variations in serve and backhand. Billions of India’s were glued to the Television sets hoping that PV Sindhu will sail into the final and bring India the much desired gold medal. But, the results turned otherwise, it was heartbreak for PV Sindhu, her fans, as well as the nation as she was beaten by Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu-Ying in straight sets in the semi-finals.

India still hopes to grab another medal and add to the silver won by weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on Day 1. Sindhu will still have a chance to go for the bronze medal. Sindhu seeded sixth, faces eighth-seed He Bingjiao in the third-place medal match at 5 pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Amit Panghal bowed out in his round of 16 bouts against Colombia’s Yurberjen Martinez in a Boxing event. Archer Atanu Das also went down in men’s individual pre-quarters. On a brighter note, discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur made it to the finals after finishing second in qualifying. Meanwhile, India defeated South Africa 4-3 in women’s hockey to keep their Olympic knockout hopes alive.

In shooting, Anjum Moudgil and Tejaswini Sawant failed to make the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions final after finishing 15th and 33rd, respectively, in qualification.
