October 7, 2023 – The Asian Games 2023 have proven to be a glorious, record moment in Indian sports history as the nation clinched its 100th medal, marking a significant milestone in their sporting journey.

The historic achievement was realized today as India secured a gold medal in kabaddi, propelling the nation’s medal count to a century. As the Games progress, India currently stands at fourth place in the overall medal tally.

This momentous occasion was reached with a remarkable total of 25 gold, 35 silver, and 40 bronze medals, reflecting India’s prowess and determination on the Asian sporting stage.

Early on a Saturday morning, Indian athletes exhibited their exceptional skills in archery and women’s kabaddi at the Asian Games 2023 , which paved the way for India’s coveted 100th medal. The individual compound archery events witnessed the triumph of Jyothi Vennam and Praveen Ojas, who clinched gold medals in their respective categories. Additionally, the women’s kabaddi team displayed resilience and dominance as they secured victory against Chinese Taipei in a thrilling final match.

Currently, India has achieved 22 medals in shooting, 29 in track and field, 5 in rowing, and 3 in sailing, with numerous others across various disciplines in the Asian Games 2023.

The Indian women’s kabaddi team reclaimed their gold medal, an impressive comeback after securing bronze in the 2018 edition. In a gripping final, the Indian women’s team showcased their prowess with a strong first-half performance, establishing a 5-point lead (14-9). However, Chinese Taipei mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, momentarily overtaking India and even eliminating all Indian players from the court, earning two additional points. Nevertheless, India displayed remarkable determination and clinched victory with a score of 26-25.

Asian Games 2023: India’s Standout Performers

Among the standout performers at the Asian Games 2023, the Indian men’s hockey team deserves special recognition as they clinched their fourth Asian Games title by defeating Japan with a commanding 5-1 victory in the final.

In individual sporting events, several female athletes have shone brightly by securing gold medals, including Sift Kaur Samra, Palak Gulia, Parul Chaudhary, Annu Rani, Parveen Hooda, Lovlina Borgohain, and Harmilan Bains.

The Indian women’s cricket team created history by winning a historic gold medal in their maiden appearance at the Asian Games 2023.

In archery, Ojas Pravin Deotale and Jyothi Vennam emerged as champions, securing gold medals in the men’s compound event and women’s individual compound event, respectively. The Indian athletics squad made a significant impact by accumulating 29 medals, including six gold, 14 silver, and nine bronze.

The Indian women’s recurve archery team secured a bronze medal, while Vishal Kewat advanced to the final in Canoe slalom. The Indian women’s Kabaddi team continued their dominance by securing a place in the final with a victory over Nepal in the semifinals.

In addition to these stellar performances, other athletes from various sports, including weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, badminton star PV Sindhu, and archery world champions Aditi Gopichand Swami and Ojas Pravin Deotale, have made invaluable contributions to India’s remarkable medal tally.

The Asian Games 2023 continue to provide moments of pride and inspiration for India, as its athletes strive to bring further glory to the nation. The 100th medal represents not just a number but a symbol of dedication, talent, and the indomitable spirit of Indian sports.
