The Maharshi Valmiki Airport will begin welcoming devotees, and tourists starting December 30, 2023 after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the much-anticipated Ayodhya Airport in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
Named after the revered sage poet Maharishi Valmiki, the airport embodies a tribute to the literary figure credited with composing the epic Ramayana.
Located approximately 15 kilometers from the heart of Ayodhya city, the newly christened Shri Ram International Airport stands as a testament to modernity and sustainable infrastructure. The sprawling terminal spans an impressive 6500 square meters, poised to cater to around 10 lakh passengers annually.
What sets this airport apart are its sustainable features meticulously integrated into its design. From insulated roofing systems to LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, lush landscaping with fountains, water treatment and sewage treatment plants, to the extensive use of solar power—a myriad of eco-friendly elements converge to earn the prestigious GRIHA 5-star ratings.
Maharshi Valmiki Airport to welcome Inaugural Flight from Delhi
The Maharshi Valmiki Airport boasts an extended runway tailored to accommodate the operations of A-321/B-737 type aircraft, ensuring enhanced connectivity and accessibility. Commencing from January 6, commercial flights, with IndiGo at the forefront, are anticipated to commence operations, with the inaugural flight scheduled from Delhi Airport to Ayodhya Airport.
However, the inauguration of Maharshi Valmiki Airport, Ayodhya’s new aviation hub is just one facet of PM Modi’s ambitious vision for the region. The Prime Minister will also lay the cornerstone for a groundbreaking greenfield township, a mammoth undertaking valued at over ₹2180 crore, promising a transformative facelift to Ayodhya’s landscape.
Additionally, the event will witness the unveiling of two Amrit Bharat trains and the dedication of three railway projects collectively valued at ₹2300 crore. These encompass the expansion and electrification of railway lines, marking a significant leap in enhancing the region’s connectivity.
In a bid to further bolster infrastructure development, PM Modi is slated to initiate projects including the Lucknow-Ayodhya section of NH-28 (new NH-27), the modification of the existing Ayodhya bypass, the establishment of the CIPET center, and the construction of municipal offices in Ayodhya—a testament to the government’s commitment to holistic development.
The collective inauguration and foundation laying ceremonies underscore a comprehensive effort aimed at fostering connectivity, sustainable growth, and cultural preservation in Ayodhya, bearing the hallmark of Prime Minister Modi’s resolve towards transformative development initiatives.
