June 8, 2024: Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the visionary founder of Ramoji Film City and a towering figure in Indian media, passed away at the age of 87. His pioneering work in film production, newspapers, and television left an indelible mark on India’s entertainment landscape. Let us delve into his remarkable legacy and contributions.

Born on November 16, 1936, in the small village of Pedaparupudi in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, Ramoji Rao’s journey began with the founding of a popular regional newspaper Eenadu. This newspaper quickly became a leading publication in Andhra Pradesh, showcasing Rao’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality journalism.

Ramoji Rao  : A Visionary in Indian Media and Entertainment

Rao’s most ambitious project was the Ramoji Film City, inaugurated in 1996. Located near Hyderabad, this sprawling complex spans over 1,666 acres and holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest film studio complex. It has become a dream destination for filmmakers, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a variety of shooting locations. Notable films shot here include ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’, ‘Robot’, and ‘Magadheera’, among others.

Ramoji Rao and his Media Empire

In addition to film production, Rao expanded his media empire beyond the Telugu News daily Eenadu with the launch of the ETV Network, a group of television channels that have entertained and informed millions. His film production company, Usha Kiran Movies, produced numerous successful films, further cementing his influence in the industry.
