November 26, 2025: OpenAI has simplified voice interactions with ChatGPT by integrating its Voice mode directly into the main chat interface, eliminating the need to switch to a separate screen. This update allows users to speak, receive answers, and interact with visuals such as images and maps, all within a single window.
Previously, ChatGPT’s Voice mode required users to leave the standard chat and enter a dedicated interface that offered only limited options like listening to responses and managing mute or video settings. With the new integration, conversations feel more fluid and natural, making it easier for users to ask questions, view answers, and interact with content seamlessly.
ChatGPT Voice Now Works Directly in Main Chat Interface
The update is available for both smartphone and web users and requires updating the ChatGPT app to access the integrated features. OpenAI confirmed on X, “You can talk, watch answers appear, review earlier messages and see visuals like images or maps in real time.”

For users who prefer the older experience, OpenAI has retained the option to revert to the separate voice interface via Settings > Voice Mode > Separate Mode. This flexibility ensures that those accustomed to the previous layout can continue using it while exploring the new integrated workflow.
This improvement marks a significant step in making AI interactions more intuitive and accessible, catering to users who value speed, convenience, and a more immersive experience.
