Thor: Love And Thunder has released in India and it has set great expectations and anticipation. With enviable star cast comprising Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson in lead roles.
The Thor franchise, fourth instalment directed by Oscar-winner Taika Waititi, gained immense popularity with audiences worldwide after the 2017 release Thor: Ragnarok. With a new film released, the box office returns are expected to be sky-high.
Thor: Love and Thunder Review: The movie takes off from where we last saw Chris Hemsworth’s Thor – at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Since then, he has been involved in adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. But the stakes are raised as he learns of a new threat – Gorr the God Butcher.
As the name suggests, he is a being hell-bent on eliminating all gods from the universe, which is not exactly good news for the God of Thunder. So he enlists the help of his trusted friend Korg (Taika himself), the current King of Asgard Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and his ex-girlfriend Dr Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who now has Thor’s powers herself.
Thor: Ragnarok had injected new life transforming a boring, all-too-powerful superhero by making him vulnerable and even fun. And Taika deserves all the credit for that. In Love and Thunder, Taika has another unique challenge.
For the first time in his MCU stint, Thor is without his brother Loki. The brothers’ chemistry and Tom Hiddleston’s charm were the highlights of most Thor films. But Love and Thunder does well without having that to fall back on. The greatest victory of Love and Thunder is that you don’t miss Loki.
Thor: Love And Thunder story
This is for the first time since Avengers: Endgame (2019) Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is taking the centre stage in the MCU. After Thor: Ragnarok (2017), the popularity of the character has grown by leaps and bounds. In the movie’s trailer, it has been hinted that Thor has gone into retirement of sorts while Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor takes the reigns over at Asgard with Valkyrie (Tessa Thomson).
The most exciting addition to the cast, however, is Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. Bale is returning to the superhero genre after playing Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy which culminated in 2012. Now, with Bale joining the MCU, fans will have a lot more to look forward to in Thor: Love And Thunder.
After Thor: Love And Thunder‘s world premieres, critics shared their responses to the latest saga in the MCU. The reviews of the film have been largely mixed and it has once again drawn attention to Marvel’s Phase 4 problems.
Some pointed out that although Thor: Love And Thunder has a good blend of humour and drama, it sticks to the mould when it comes to storytelling and barely attempts to deliver anything new. It has also been pointed out that the first hour of the film is stretched and the setup wastes a lot of time. Although Gorr’s character is well established in the first half of the film, Bale could have done much better, critics said.
As Thor: Love And Thunder has been released in cinema halls, expectations from OTT fans is also on the rise to know when and where will the movie start streaming on OTT.
Watch Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love And Thunder will stream on Disney+Hotstar. You will need a Premium subscription to the streaming app to enjoy the film. Apart from Thor: Love And Thunder, all of the previous Thor films and other MCU films can also be streamed on the Disney+Hotstar app including the latest Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.
The good thing about the film is that it does not waste too much time in exposition and backstories. The background of everything – from why Gorr hates gods to how Jane is able to wield Mjolnir – is explained crisply yet completely. This not only keeps the runtime short but gives the characters more time to grow and interact. And the interactions and dialogue between two characters are the highlight of any Taika film.
Like Ragnarok, the best scenes of Love and Thunder involve just two characters talking. And while the dialogue between Thor and Jane or Thor and Korg are fun indeed, the most sparkling chemistry belongs to Valkyrie and Jane. Any scene with these two is delightful and it’s a shame Natalie and Tessa have limited scenes together here.
For now, Thor: Love And Thunder will run exclusively in cinema halls. It is expected that the movie’s OTT premiere will not happen before two months of the theatrical release date. It will stream digitally only after August end and not before.
