Today, January 23, 2024, marks the 127th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of India’s most prominent freedom fighters. The day is celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwas’ or Courage Day. To commemorate the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Prakram Divas celebrations at the Red Fort in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, will also launch Bharat Parv, a nine-day event to showcase the country’s rich diversity and exhibit different cultures.
“In line with the vision of the prime minister to take steps to duly honour the contribution of luminaries who played a significant role in the freedom struggle, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was started being celebrated as Parakram Diwas in 2021,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a key figure in India’s struggle for independence, and his legacy continues to inspire generations. From establishing and leading the Indian National Army to forming alliances against the British, he played a crucial role in laying the foundation for the modern Indian state.
The Prakram Divas celebrations included a parade by the Indian Armed Forces, cultural performances, and the unveiling of a statue of Netaji at the Red Fort. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Apart from the Prakram Divas celebrations in Delhi, Netaji’s birth anniversary was celebrated across India. Leaders across party lines paid tribute to the freedom fighter and his contributions to the country’s independence.
President Draupadi Murmu tweeted, “Netaji demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the cause of India’s freedom. His indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to India’s independence continue to inspire us all and to work tirelessly towards a united, prosperous, and free India.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a leading example of Indian values of pluralism and Gandhi.” He also offered floral tributes to Netaji at a campsite in Assam, where he is currently on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
