CWG 2022: India Celebrates its First Medal Win, with Sanket Sargar’s Silver Medal

At the Common Wealth Games, Sanket Sargar won the silver medal in the 55 kg weightlifting competition, giving India its first medal.

The 20-year-old struggled with an injury halfway through the competition but persevered, which was very commendable. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, his effort enabled India to capture its first medal.

Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in the men’s weightlifting 55kg category event courtesy of a brave performance at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday, July 30. The 20-year-old suffered an injury but still continued to hang on and give his best, which eventually resulted in a silver-an effort that was lauded by many including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
