Jean-Eric Vergne, the French driver of DS PENSKE, made an incredible return to the top of the Formula E podium with a stunning victory at the Greenko Hyderabad E-Prix Round 4. Vergne took the lead on Lap 15, fending off the strong challenges from Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi. Despite the intense pressure, Vergne held his ground, crossing the finish line first in front of a sold-out crowd of over 25,000 spectators, in what was one of his best wins to date.

However, the race was not without its share of drama. The double champion Sam Bird made a daring move on fourth-placed Sacha Fenestraz of Nissan, which resulted in a spin for Bird’s teammate Mitch Evans. This incident took both drivers out of the race and reduced Jaguar’s hopes of a double podium.

Buemi took third place, but was later penalized for overpower infringement and demoted to 15th. This opened the door for Antonio Felix da Costa of TAG Heuer Porsche to take third, who had started the race from 13th place. Pascal Wehrlein came in fourth, while Sergio Sette Camara produced NIO 333’s best result since Berlin, Season 4, with a fifth-place finish.

Reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne of DS PENSKE came in eighth, while Andre Lotterer (Avalanche Andretti) and Edo Mortara (Maserati MSG Racing) rounded out the top 10. Meanwhile, Jake Dennis was forced to retire after a collision with Rene Rast, who rear-ended Dennis’ Avalanche Andretti.

The victory has propelled Vergne to third in the Driver’s standings, while TAG Heuer Porsche holds a 23-point lead over Avalanche Andretti in the Teams’ World Championship. The next round of Formula E will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on February 25th.
