November 24, 2024: The IPL 2025 auction has made headlines with Rishabh Pant setting a new record as the most expensive player in IPL history. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a staggering ₹27 crore, surpassing the previous record held by Shreyas Iyer.

The IPL 2025 Auction Highlights

The auction, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saw intense bidding wars for top players. Rishabh Pant, released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction, was the star attraction. LSG and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) initially vied for Pant, with the bidding starting at ₹11 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined the fray, pushing the price to ₹20.5 crore. Ultimately, LSG secured Pant for ₹27 crore after Delhi Capitals chose not to use their Right to Match (RTM) card.

Pant’s acquisition broke the record set just minutes earlier by Shreyas Iyer, who was bought by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore. This surpassed the previous record held by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who was acquired for ₹24.75 crore in the last auction.

Impact on Teams

Rishabh Pant‘s move to LSG is expected to bolster their lineup significantly. Known for his explosive batting and sharp wicketkeeping skills, Pant has been a key player for India in both Test and limited-overs formats. His addition to LSG is seen as a strategic move to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Fan Reactions

Fans have expressed mixed reactions to the high bids. While some are excited to see Pant in a new team, others are concerned about the financial implications of such high-priced acquisitions. The auction has once again highlighted the growing commercial aspect of the IPL, where player valuations continue to soar.
