Sri Lanka resumed Day 2 at 86 for 6 and Niroshan Dickwella kickstarted with back-to-back boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah. However, Bumrah returned in the next over to bounce out Lasith Embuldeniya for 1.
Niroshan Dickwella was the next man to depart as Bumrah dismissed him to register his first 5-wicket haul at home, while Ashwin took a couple of wickets to bowl out the Lankans for 109. SL managed to add only 23 runs in 35 balls on Day 2 and handed India a massive 143-run first-innings lead.

As Bumrah achieved the feat on Day 2, the cricket fraternity lauded him. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the fast bowler, saying that he “would pay to watch Jasprit Bumrah bowl.”
West Indies’ former cricketer and commentator Ian Bishop also heaped praise on Bumrah, insisting that the five-wicket haul was “absolutely deserving” for Bumrah. Wasim Jaffer, meanwhile, lauded Bumrah in his own witty way.
