ODI Batting Rankings has a new shining batting star. India’s Shubman Gill has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the No. 1 batter in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings, overtaking Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Gill, who has scored 1449 runs in 26 ODIs this year, including four centuries and a double-hundred, has 830 rating points, six more than Babar. He is only the fourth Indian player to reach the top spot in ODI batting Rankings , after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Gill’s rise to the top reflects India’s dominant performance at the World Cup 2023, where they have won all their eight league matches so far.
Gill missed the initial part of the tournament due to dengue, but has since scored 219 runs in six innings, with two fifties against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

India also have three other batters in the top ten of the ODI Batting rankings – Kohli at No. 4, Rohit Sharma at No. 5 and Heinrich Klaasen at No. 6. Their bowling unit has been equally impressive, with Mohammed Siraj leading the pack as the No. 1 bowler in the ODI rankings, followed by Kuldeep Yadav at No. 5, Jasprit Bumrah at No. 7 and Mohammed Shami at No. 9.
India will face Australia in the semi-final of the World Cup on November 12, hoping to continue their unbeaten run and secure a place in the final.
