England Women vs India women First ODI Live: India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur chose to bowl first against England in today’s first ODI after winning the toss. England has set India target of 228 to win first women’s ODI.

Shafali Verma departed for just one run as India lost an early wicket against England in the first ODI match of the series.

Splendid half-century by Alice Richardson has helped England set a target of 228 for India to win. It’s a below-par score but England are a good bowling unit and they will certainly make India earn these runs.

Young batter Alice Davidson-Richards scored an unbeaten 50 off 61 balls while Sophie Ecclestone contributed with a 50-ball 43 as England women posted 227/7 in 50 overs against a potent Indian bowling attack in the first ODI at County Ground in Hove.

With up to 42 dot balls, only 20 runs were given up in 10 overs. She bowled a brilliant off-cutter to dismiss the seasoned Tammy Beaumont without giving up a single boundary or six (7).

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made the right decision by choosing to field on a shoddy surface where the ball wasn’t always coming into the bat. After the other opener Emma Lamb (12), who was hustled by seamer Meghna Singh (1/42 in 8 overs), was bowled by a short ball, Goswami and the two spinners Deepti Sharma (2/33 in 10 overs) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (1/40 in 10 overs) repeatedly stopped the run flow.

Although the home team eventually scored more than 210 runs, Sneh Rana (1/45 in 6 overs) and Pooja Vastrakar (0/20 in 2 overs) as well as Meghna did allow a few runs to slip.

The standout performers for England were Dani Wyatt (43 off 50 balls), Alice Davidson-Richards (50 not out off 61 balls), and Sophie Ecclestone (31).
