Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has underscored the government’s commitment to preserving cultural values in entertainment, cautioning against content that insults cultural sentiments under the guise of freedom. Speaking at the launch of “Over the Top Maya Jaal,” a book focusing on OTT platforms, Thakur pledged government support to the industry while urging responsible content creation.

During the book launch event held at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Thakur emphasized the need for a balance between artistic freedom and societal responsibility. He advocated for ‘self-regulation’ within the industry but warned against using it as a shield for indecent or culturally insensitive content. Thakur stressed that artistic expression should not undermine societal values or promote obscenity.

The event, attended by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Shri Sunil Ambekar and Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, focused on fostering informed discourse and promoting culturally sensitive entertainment. Ambekar highlighted the role of OTT platforms in promoting Indian languages and creativity while urging for responsible content production aligned with religious and cultural values.

Anurag Thakur Warns OTT Platforms: Uphold Cultural Values or Face Consequences

Dr. Joshi emphasized the contemporary relevance of Anant Vijay’s book and called for its integration into journalism curriculums. He reiterated the importance of contemplating regulatory measures for OTT platforms to ensure societal well-being.

As the government pledges support to OTT platforms, the industry faces growing scrutiny to uphold cultural sensitivity in content creation, marking a pivotal moment in India’s entertainment landscape.
