ChatGPT Pulse Update: September 28, 2025 , San Francisco, CA : OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has officially announced on X, the launch of Pulse, an interesting new feature for ChatGPT, aimed at redefining the AI assistant experience through proactivity and hyper-personalization.

Initially rolled out to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, Pulse is designed to work behind the scenes, analyzing user behavior, recent conversations, connected data, and personal interests, to deliver a daily customized feed of relevant insights and content.

“Pulse works for you overnight… Every morning, you get a custom-generated set of stuff you might be interested in,” Altman posted on X (formerly Twitter).

OpenAI’s new Pulse feature delivers personalized daily updates: but only for Pro users (for now)

Today we are launching my favorite feature of ChatGPT so far, called Pulse. It is initially available to Pro subscribers.

Pulse marks a significant strategic pivot in the ChatGPT product vision, from being a reactive tool that responds to user prompts, to a proactive assistant that anticipates user needs.

The system improves as users share more about themselves. Mentioning goals like “I’d like to go visit Bora Bora someday” or personal context such as “My kid is 6 months old” trains Pulse to deliver relevant travel suggestions, developmental updates, and more, without needing to be asked.

“Think of treating ChatGPT like a super-competent personal assistant… if you share general preferences, it will do a good job for you proactively,” Altman said.

Exclusivity and Expansion Plans

Currently, Pulse is available only to ChatGPT Pro users, the $20/month tier offering access to GPT-4 and premium features. Altman noted that OpenAI aims to improve the feature over time, with the long-term goal of making it available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers as well.

The feature was built by a team led by Christina Hart and Samir Kaji, who received high praise from Altman during the announcement.

Pulse taps into a larger trend in AI: contextual, ambient intelligence. As users increasingly integrate AI into daily workflows, the demand for assistants that understand and anticipate needs, rather than just respond, is growing. OpenAI’s move puts them ahead in the race to offer persistent, context-aware, and human-aligned AI experiences.

With privacy, safety, and user trust continuing to be focal points in AI development, OpenAI will likely face scrutiny on how user data is used to generate Pulse insights.
