August 12, 2026: The teaser of Haiwaan is finally here, and Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are clearly not returning to the screen together for a light-hearted reunion. The 48-second teaser keeps the plot firmly under wraps, offering no dialogue and very few direct clues. Instead, it relies on an eerie background score, dark visuals and fleeting glimpses of its two leads to establish an atmosphere of danger and suspense.
Directed by Priyadarshan and backed by KVN Productions, Haiwaan marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan nearly 18 years after they appeared together in Tashan in 2008. Their latest collaboration appears to take them into considerably darker territory, with the teaser suggesting a thriller centred on a mysterious conflict between two men.
Akshay shared the teaser on X with the line, “HE hears the danger…I AM the danger!” He then asked, “Ab jeet kiski hogi? Hero ya Haiwaan?” The question neatly captures the mystery the teaser is trying to build: who exactly is the hero, and who is the threat?
The video opens with shadowy images of Saif Ali Khan, accompanied by an unsettling score. From there, it moves through a collection of striking but deliberately unexplained shots. Saif is seen walking beside a mist-covered waterfront, while Akshay appears near a flame holding a large Christian cross. Another shot shows someone adjusting a luxury wristwatch, followed by a bloodied hand in a dark alley and papers or money falling from a high-rise building.
The teaser also gives viewers only brief glimpses of Akshay’s face, while Saif remains largely shrouded in shadows. Towards the end, a hand presses against a glass surface before the title Haiwaan appears in bold red letters. The teaser closes with the film’s release date, September 11, 2026.
What makes the teaser interesting is its decision not to explain too much. There is no introductory dialogue telling audiences who these characters are or what has brought them into conflict. Instead, the filmmakers appear to be banking on visual mystery. The result feels closer to a mood piece than a conventional promotional video, with the background score doing much of the heavy lifting.
The imagery also suggests that the film may play with the idea of appearances. Akshay’s presence carries an immediate sense of menace, particularly in the shot involving the flame, while Saif’s character appears more elusive and difficult to read. Whether the teaser is deliberately misleading audiences about their respective roles remains one of the film’s biggest unanswered questions.

The teaser indicates that this project is firmly embracing that darker side of his filmmaking, with its muted visuals, ominous sound design and emphasis on tension.
The film is the official Hindi remake of the 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam, which starred Mohanlal. That connection adds another layer of curiosity, particularly for viewers familiar with the original. The challenge for the Hindi adaptation will be to retain the suspense of Oppam while giving the material a distinct identity through its new cast and setting.
The screenplay for Haiwaan has been co-written by Rohan Shankar and Abhilash Nair, while Pritam has composed the music. With Akshay and Saif leading the cast and Priyadarshan returning to thriller territory, the film has plenty of ingredients to generate interest.
For now, the teaser succeeds in doing what a teaser should: it creates curiosity without giving away the answers. There is clearly a dangerous game unfolding, but the rules, motivations and loyalties remain deliberately unclear. That mystery could become one of Haiwaan‘s biggest strengths if the full film manages to maintain the tension promised by these first 48 seconds.
