Wednesday, June 3, 2026: Hyderabad’s booming beauty and wellness scene is facing a major shake-up. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued a stern warning: many injectable procedures marketed as “glow shots,” “skin boosters,” and anti-ageing treatments are illegal under Indian law.
According to the CDSCO, cosmetic products are meant for external use only, they can be rubbed, sprinkled, poured, or sprayed on the skin, but cannot be injected. Injectables fall under stricter pharmaceutical rules and should only be administered in hospitals by trained medical professionals.
This directive strengthens the Telangana Drug Control Administration (TGDCA), giving authorities the power to inspect clinics and wellness centres offering such services. Senior inspectors say the move comes amid growing safety concerns about procedures performed outside proper medical settings.
“The Health Ministry wants the public and clinics to understand clearly: injecting cosmetics is not safe and not legal,” officials said.
The CDSCO is also asking citizens to report illegal procedures. Anyone noticing unauthorized injectables in clinics can email cosmetics@cdsco.nic.in or call 18005996969.
Key Takeaways for the Public:
- Injectable products cannot be marketed as cosmetics.
- Only hospitals should offer injectables.
- Any product claiming to treat skin conditions must follow pharmaceutical regulations.
- Mislabeling or tampering with cosmetic products is illegal.
This crackdown by CDSCO is a wake-up call for both clinics and patients: safety comes first, and beauty should never compromise health.
