Hyderabad, India , June 1 2023: Green Energy Innovator, Entrepreneur, and CEO & MD of Greenko Group, Anil Chalamalasetty, received a momentous accolade as he was granted the distinguished title of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by JNTU, Kakinada.
The esteemed recognition was bestowed upon him at the ninth convocation ceremony of the university held on May 31, 2023. Present at the event were the Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Sri S. Abdul Nazeer, and JNTU-K Vice Chancellor, Dr. GVR Prasada Raju, who had the honor of presenting the honorary degree to Mr. Chalamalasetty.
Sri Anil Chalamalasetty’s entrepreneurial journey spans over 25 years, during which he has made remarkable contributions to environmental sustainability and energy transition. His relentless pursuit of creating a positive impact for future generations has established him as a key figure in India’s sustainable development landscape.
Anil’s career began in the field of Information Technology, where he gained valuable experience working with Digi Tele Enterprises in India and London. Subsequently, he went on to found Greenko Group and Ace Group, organizations that have played instrumental roles in India’s journey towards achieving its sustainability goals.
Anil Chalamalasetty Gains JNTU Recognition for his pioneering renewable energy initiatives
As a first-generation entrepreneur hailing from a humble background, Anil Chalamalasetty has been pivotal in positioning India as the only country among the G20 nations to meet its sustainability targets. His visionary leadership has been responsible for the development of over 10% of India’s Renewable Energy capacity, contributing significantly to the country’s energy transition.
Anil’s commitment to his motherland and his dedication to societal progress prompted his relocation from the UK, where he enjoyed great success as a young IT entrepreneur, to India, where he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey. Today, he spearheads the construction of the world’s largest electrolyser and integrated Green Hydrogen & Green Ammonia plant in Kakinada, with an investment of approximately USD 3 Billion. This transformative initiative positions the region as a leading Hydrogen Hub, poised to cater to the global demand for sustainable energy solutions.
Furthermore, Anil Chalamalasetty’s visionary actions have led to strategic partnerships with renowned organizations such as John Cockerill, Belgium, for the establishment of the world’s largest Electrolyser manufacturing facility in India. This collaboration positions India as a preferred destination for low-carbon product manufacturing, offering an alternative to China.
By catalysing the Renewable Energy Storage sector, Anil has positioned Andhra Pradesh as the capital for energy storage, thereby propelling the overall development of the state and India’s ambitions to become a preferred destination for decarbonized manufacturing. His efforts have garnered partnerships with prominent entities such as ONGC India, Keppel Infrastructure, Singapore, POSCO, South Korea, and leading European companies.
Anil’s extraordinary dynamism and passion for technical, design, and business innovation culminated in the conceptualization and development of the World’s first “Off Stream Closed Loop Pumped Storage Project (OCPSP)” in Andhra Pradesh. This ground-breaking Pumped Storage Project (PSP) will contribute over 20,000 Megawatt Hours of daily energy storage capacity to the Indian grid, enabling the development of over 6,000 MW of Wind and Solar capacities across India. Anil’s efforts have catalysed the emergence of a new industry, potentially attracting over Rs. 2,00,000 Crores of investment in Pumped Storage Projects and Rs. 6,00,000 Crores in associated Wind and Solar projects in India.
