India’s freedom fighter and popularly known as the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel 147th birth anniversary is celebrated today by India in a big way. The day is also celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

This morning, on the eve of his birth anniversary the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Patel Chowk in New Delhi received floral homage from President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Both Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi and Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena paid tribute to Sardar Patel.
Following the flower tribute, Mr. Shah signalled the start of the “Run for Unity” in New Delhi, which attracted almost 8,000 participants. The occasion also included the presence of the Lt. Governor of Delhi, S Jaishankar, and Meenakshi Lekh, Union Ministers.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Shah said we are honouring Sardar Patel today for his contribution to India’s future. He claimed that Sardar Patel had been crucial in convincing many princely kingdoms to ally with India. He continued by saying that while we are commemorating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, today is also significant for the nation. In addition, Mr. Shah asked the populace to struggle for the nation’s integrity and togetherness in the manner of Sardar Patel.
Additionally, this morning from Delhi University, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan started off the Unity Run in honour of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. Prof. Yogesh Singh, vice chancellor of Delhi University, together with the registrar, principals, instructors, senior administrators, and students of CBSE Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya and the University took part in the Unity Run.
The celebration also witnessed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge taking ceremony near Gandhi Statue adjacent Vice Regal Lodge and an address by the Education Minister. Special Exhibits on the life of Sardar Patel was displayed at Jawahar Park, Vice Regal Lodge to commemorate one of the most revered sons of the soil and learn from his life.
