Suryakumar Yadav continued his strong run of form by smashing the second century of his T20I career. He was rewarded with the Player of the match after his match winning knock.
India bowled New Zealand out for 126 to win the game quite handsomely in the end. Kane Williamson, the captain, led the home team in scoring with 61 points from 52 shots. Deepak Hooda, a part-time spinner, was the best Indian bowler, recording outstanding statistics of 4/10.
His heroic batting was displayed at the second Twenty20 edition of the three-match series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
In the penultimate over of India’s innings, Yadav needed just 49 deliveries to reach 100. After that, he hit a four and a six, but he was unable to obtain a strike in the final over, and India finished with a total of 191/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Yadav finished his innings unbeaten at 111 from 51 deliveries, scoring 11 fours and seven enormous sixes.
Suryakumar Yadav scores his second T20 Century this year
This was also his second century after his century against England in an international match this year; the first came in a T20I earlier in the year. The highest among all batsmen, Yadav has amassed 1151 runs in T20Is in 2022, with a fantastic average and strike rate of 47.95 and 188.37, respectively.
Additionally, he was among India’s top batters during the last T20 World Cup in Australia, scoring 239 runs at a brilliant average of 59.75 and a staggering strike rate of 189.68. This includes 50 points in pivotal contests with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands.
He rose to No. 1 hitter in the ICC T20I rankings as a result of his performances during the tournament, and it doesn’t appear that he will relinquish that spot very soon.
The 32-year-old made his international debut for India against England in a T20I last year in Ahmedabad. Additionally, he went on to play in his first ODI soon after, taking on Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2021. He has participated in 13 ODIs and scored 340 runs at an average of 34. However, he has primarily been famous for his T20I achievements, having amassed 1395 runs in the format to date, including two hundreds and 12 fifties.
During the mid-game break, Suryakumar Yadav commented on his performance, saying, “In T20 cricket, a hundred was incredibly amazing, but Hardik advised me it was equally crucial for me to bat until the end.
“We needed a score of 190-195 and happy we got there. We had a word in the 16th over that we wanted to take it deep with only Hooda and Washington to follow. I’ve been doing the same thing in the nets and all practice sessions.”
India won the match pretty comprehensively in the end as they bowled New Zealand out for 126. Skipper Kane Williamson was the top scorer for the hosts as he scored 61 from 52 deliveries. Part-time spinner Deepak Hooda was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he registered superb figures of 4/10.
Suryakumar was adjudged the Player of the Match once again for his superb batting effort.
