Hyderabad, India, January 8, 2025 – Dr. Krishna Ella, a visionary scientist and the driving force behind Bharat Biotech, has been awarded the prestigious India Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) for 2025. Recognized for his pioneering work in vaccine innovation and biotechnology, Dr. Ella’s contributions have not only revolutionized vaccine technologies but also paved the way for new discoveries that continue to shape global public health.
The INSA Fellowship, one of India’s highest scientific honors, acknowledges individuals for their exceptional contributions to scientific knowledge, research, and technology. Dr. Ella joins an esteemed group of past honorees, including luminaries such as Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Dr. VK Saraswat, Dr. S Somanath, and Mr. S Kris Gopalakrishnan, among others. This year marks a milestone for INSA as it awarded fellowships to industry leaders for the first time, further highlighting the growing importance of innovation in the private sector.
In a groundbreaking year, INSA awarded 61 fellowships, a notable number that reflects the expanding reach of scientific advancements in India. The fellowship not only confers recognition but also grants the privilege of attending and voting at INSA general meetings, along with the ability to propose future fellows or awardees.

During his debut speech at the 90th Anniversary General Meeting of INSA in Chennai, Dr. Ella emphasized the importance of “Science in Translation,” a concept that underscores the critical role of applied scientific research in solving real-world challenges. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing vaccine science and strengthening India’s biotech ecosystem, which has been instrumental in the country’s growing stature in the global biotechnology landscape.
