Sriharikota, India (May 30, 2024): In a landmark achievement for India, startup Agnikul Cosmos, a Chennai-based startup, successfully launched its Agnibaan SOrTeD rocket on Thursday. This mission marks a significant milestone as it features the world’s first single-piece, 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine.

The sub-orbital test flight lifted off at 7:15 am from Sriharikota, India’s only operational spaceport. This success comes after overcoming technical hurdles that led to the postponement of previous launch attempts.

Prime Minister Modi Hails “Yuva Shakti” Innovation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to commend the accomplishment, calling it a “remarkable feat” and a testament to the ingenuity of India’s young talent (Yuva Shakti). He expressed his best wishes to the Agnikul Cosmos team for their future endeavors.

Agnibaan Rocket : A Testament to Indian Ingenuity

The Agnibaan SOrTeD (Sub-Orbital Technological Demonstrator) is a single-stage vehicle powered by a groundbreaking engine. Developed indigenously, the engine is the first of its kind to be manufactured entirely through 3D printing. This innovative technology promises to revolutionize future space launches by reducing costs and streamlining production times.

A Private Launchpad Ushers in a New Era

Agnikul Cosmos also achieved another significant feat – the launch took place from their dedicated launchpad, marking the first time a private entity has conducted a launch from Sriharikota. This achievement highlights the growing capabilities of India’s private space sector.

Industry Leaders Applaud Historic Mission

The successful launch has been met with widespread praise from the Indian space community. ISRO, India’s national space agency, and IN-SPACe, the regulator for private space activities, both applauded Agnikul’s accomplishment. Industry leaders hailed it as a “major milestone” and a “historic moment” for India’s space ambitions.

Future Outlook: Affordable Launches for Small Satellites

The success of the Agnibaan SOrTeD mission paves the way for Agnikul Cosmos to enter the commercial launch market. The company aims to offer cost-effective launch solutions for small satellites, catering to the growing demand in this segment. With their innovative 3D-printed engine technology and dedicated launchpad, Agnikul Cosmos is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of India’s space industry.
