New Delhi, July 20, 2024: Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced that airline systems across airports have returned to normal operations since 3 AM Saturday. This follows a widespread IT outage on Friday that crippled travel services worldwide.
“Flight operations are now running smoothly,” stated Minister K Rammohan Naidu, confirming the restoration of critical systems post the global IT disruption.
The Aviation Ministry is closely monitoring airport operations to facilitate seamless travel adjustments and refunds for affected passengers, ensuring minimal disruption.
However, reports suggest that technical glitches persist at various airports in India, including major hubs like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Chennai. Passengers continue to endure significant disruptions despite Microsoft’s assurance of service restoration.
Air India, notably, managed to avoid cancellations on Saturday despite delays attributed to the residual impact on airport services. The airline affirmed that its robust IT infrastructure remained unaffected throughout the incident.
Crowdstrike, Microsoft Outage Chaos; Aviation Minister Issues Statement
IndiGo, on the other hand, faced extended queues at check-in counters at Delhi airport due to ongoing system disruptions stemming from the Microsoft outage. The airline anticipates resolving these issues as services gradually stabilize.
The global IT incident, sparked by an update glitch from CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor software impacting Microsoft’s Windows operating system, caused widespread chaos across sectors, notably affecting aviation operations.
While Microsoft and CrowdStrike have since addressed the root cause and deployed fixes, some airlines and airports continue to grapple with the aftermath, highlighting ongoing challenges in restoring full service functionality.
