December 10, Jaipur, Rajasthan: Jaipur, Rajasthan – Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam has raised a storm on social media after his recent performance at the prestigious Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit. The show, held at the renowned Rambagh Palace, was meant to be a cultural celebration, showcasing the artistic excellence of Rajasthan to international delegates. However, the evening was overshadowed by a controversial act from several politicians, who left mid-performance.

Nigam, who performed to a captivated audience, was visibly upset when he saw key political figures, including Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, leaving the event midway. In the video he posted online, Nigam directly addressed the politicians, urging them to show more respect for artists.

In his heartfelt message, Sonu Nigam expressed his disappointment, saying, “I was disheartened to see CM sahab and others get up and leave during my performance. Once they left, the delegates also began to leave. This is a message I have for all politicians—if you cannot appreciate an artist’s performance, then you should not attend at all.”

The incident, which was witnessed by delegates from around the globe, raised serious concerns about the treatment of artists in India, especially at events that aim to promote the state and its culture. Nigam further added, “This was a very prestigious event, and it wasn’t just any performance. It was about promoting the pride of Rajasthan.”

Jaipur Show: Politicians Walk Out, Sonu Nigam Speaks Out for Change

Nigam’s message was not just a response to the walkout; it was a call for a change in the way public figures treat artists. He compared the situation to international standards, where political leaders are expected to respect performances and show appreciation for the arts. “I’ve never seen a President or any political leader leave a performance midway. At least they inform before leaving,” Nigam pointed out.

His frustration grew as he reflected on the broader implications of such actions. “Leaving in the middle of an artist’s performance is not just disrespectful; it’s an insult to the art form. It sends the wrong message to the public, especially to younger generations.”

Sonu Nigam’s bold stand was quickly supported by his fans and peers, with many taking to social media to express their agreement. His sister, playback singer Teesha Nigam, praised him for speaking out, commenting, “Only You could say it like it is! 🔥🙌❤️.”

Fans echoed her sentiment, with one fan writing, “Thank you for calling it out. It needed to be said.” Another fan commented, “Sonu, you spoke for all of us who value art and respect our artists.”

This incident has sparked a wider debate on the need for respect towards artists at high-profile events. The Jaipur show, which was intended to highlight the state’s cultural richness, became a moment of reflection on how public figures must lead by example when it comes to supporting the arts.

Sonu Nigam’s message has been heard loud and clear: if politicians want to attend cultural events, they must show the same level of respect for artists as they would for any other important occasion. His plea for change is simple – “If you can’t stay for the full event, then don’t come at all.”

Sonu Nigam’s candid remarks have not only sparked controversy but also opened the door for much-needed discussions on how artists should be treated in India. As the country celebrates its cultural diversity and artistic heritage, it’s time to ensure that artists, who embody the essence of Indian culture, receive the respect they truly deserve.

Through his powerful message, Sonu Nigam has reminded us all that the way we treat our artists is a reflection of how we value our culture. If politicians truly wish to promote the rich traditions of India, they must start by respecting the very artists who help preserve and showcase these traditions to the world.
