After a member allegedly made a personal remark during a discussion on the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan had a furious outburst in the Rajya Sabha Monday.
“Aapke bure din aayenge,” Jaya Bachchan said of the Narendra Modi government (your bad days are coming).. I’m going to curse you.”
Jaya Bachchan also slammed the House’s processes, saying it was “discussing clerical errors for 3-4 hours but wasn’t ready to discuss the subject of the suspended MPs,” and accusing the Chair, Bhubaneswar Kalita, of being unjust.
‘Your bad days are coming… I curse you’ – Jaya Bachchan Showers Anger in Rajya Sabha
The event occurred on the same day that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Bachchan’s daughter-in-law, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Panama Papers case.
The NDPS (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on a voice vote to correct a “drafting anomaly” in the Act. Meanwhile, opposition members continued to try to refocus the debate on the issue of MP suspension.
“We want justice. We don’t expect justice from there [pointing to treasury benches], but can we expect it from you? How are you protecting the members of this House or the 12 members sitting outside?” she charged at Mr. Kalita adding that though there were many pressing issues, four hours were allotted to discuss a Bill that seeks to rectify a clerical error.
“What is going on? This is terrible. Who are you [Opposition] protesting against? It all falls on deaf ears. Please sit down, [to the treasury bench] your bad days will be here soon, they don’t let us talk nor allow us to sit in the House. Why don’t you suffocate us to death?” the MP said. She called out one of the members for a nasty remark made against her and her career.
