May 12, 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders’ batsman Ramandeep Singh has been fined 20% of his match fee for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during their thrilling victory against the Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.

The 27-year-old admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.20 of the Code and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. While details of the specific offense haven’t been disclosed, Article 2.20 typically deals with actions outside the game’s spirit, such as damaging equipment or showing dissent.

“Ramandeep Singh committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” confirmed the IPL in a statement. “For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Despite the Off-Field Hiccup, Ramandeep Singh Impresses on the Field

This news comes despite Ramandeep Singh‘s impressive performance on the field. He played a crucial knock of 17 runs off just 8 balls, helping KKR reach a competitive total of 157/7 in the rain-shortened 16-over match. He even snagged a vital catch of Suryakumar Yadav during Mumbai’s chase, further contributing to KKR’s dominant 18-run victory.

KKR Clinch Playoffs Spot with Dominant Win

This win not only cemented KKR’s position at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with 18 points from 12 matches, but also secured them a coveted spot in the playoffs, making them the first team to do so this season. Rajasthan Royals are currently in second place with 16 points and are also strong contenders to qualify for the next stage.
