Reuters Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui killed in Kandahar in Afghanistan, has shocked the nation and photojournalist community around the world. He was killed in Kandahar province in a cross fire between forces and terrorists.
A Pulitzer Prize winner, Danish was killed by terrorists in Kandahar province while on an assignment with Afghan security forces. Sediq Karzai, an Afghan special forces commander in Kandahar, was also killed in the same incident. An Afghan commander informed Reuters about Danish Siddiqui’s death.
Siddiqui, was killed while covering a clash between Afghanistan forces and Taliban fighters in Kandahar on Friday.
Mr Siddiqui did his MA from Jamia Millia Islamia’s AJK-Mass Communication Research Centre in 2007. He was in the seven-member Reuters team that won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize.

“Deeply disturbed by the sad news of the killing of a friend, Danish Seddiqi in Kandahar last night. The Indian Journalist & winner of Pulitzer Prize was embedded with Afghan security forces. I met him 2 weeks ago before his departure to Kabul. Condolences to his family & Reuters,” Mamundzay tweeted. In other tweets in Hindi, Mamundzay said Siddiqui, the chief photographer for Reuters in India, was with “Afghan security forces when they were attacked by terrorists” in Kandahar province on Friday.
Siddiqui had been embedded with Afghan special forces in southern Kandahar province since earlier this week and was reporting on fighting between Afghan commandos and Taliban fighters.
