Here are some key results from the Olympics 2020 on Day 4 at Tokyo.

3X3 basketball: Heavy favorites for men’s gold Serbia defeated hosts Japan 21–11.

Archery: The men’s round of 16 took place, with India, United States and Great Britain through to the quarters, but Australia bowed out 4–5 to Chinese Taipei.

Badminton: Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith (GBR) concluded their fine group stage with a shock straight-sets 21–12 21–19 win against Thailand’s Dechapol and Sapsiree. Both pairs were 2–0 coming into the game and had already qualified for the quarter-finals.

Beach Volleyball: Wins for Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes (CAN) and Kelly Claes/Sarah Sponcil (USA). Brazil’s Ana Patricia Silva/Rebecca Silva also began with a win.

Olympics 2020 Day 4 Key Results

Boxing: Ireland’s Brendan Irvine suffered a surprise round-of-32 defeat to Philippines’ Carlo Paalam in the flyweight.

Handball: Wins for European powerhouses France and Germany against South American opposition in Brazil and Argentina respectively.

Hockey: Great Britain lead Canada 3–1 in men’s pool B. Earlier, Netherlands beat Ireland 4–0 in women’s pool A. Australia are currently 3–0 up against China in women’s pool B.

Shooting: China’s WEI Meng set the first Qualifying Olympic Record under the new qualification format in the women’s skeet, scoring 124 points to equal her own world record.

Softball: USA walked it off against Japan 2–1 to close out round-robin play. Both teams meet tomorrow in the gold medal game.

Table tennis: The top seeds enter the competition this afternoon as the singles tournaments reach the third round. Earlier, Lily Zhang (USA) and LAY Jian Fang (AUS) made it past the second round in women’s singles.
