McLaughlin creates a new world record to win women’s 400m hurdles
Time for the morning’s only track final, the women’s 400m hurdles. Will we get something like the men’s final?
The gun goes. Great reaction from Sydney McLaughlin in lane 4, the world record holder from America. Dalilah Muhammad went out strongly too, it’s the two Americans, McLaughlin catching her on the line and that’s a new world record 51.46!
Muhammad silver in 51.58, also under the old world record.
Femke Bol of the Netherlands just behind the two Americans in 52.03, a European record for bronze in a time that would have broken the old Olympic record.
It was a super exciting 400m hurdles race that the world watched in awe
In both the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles finals, the top two finishers go under the world record (by tenths) and the third-place finisher runs the fourth-fastest time in history.
